A Lesson Plan for the Under Graduate Students:

Level Of Students: Under Graduate (Private University)
Number of Students: 30
Duration of Class: 1 hour 20 minutes (total 80 minutes)
Objectives: to improve listening, writing, reading and speaking skill; learning some Business English Words.

Lesson Plan:

Step 1- Warm up Activity (10 minutes):

Talk about different fairs of Bangladesh asking the students which fair they have visited and liked most and their experience etc.

Step 2- Listening Activity of Fill up the Blanks (15 minutes):

Inform the students that a video podcast on "International Trade Fair of Bangladesh" (uploaded below titled "Podcast on International Trade Fair of Bangladesh") will be played 2 times. In first turn, they will enjoy the video and listen to it. Then they will be given the written script of that podcast with some gaps to fill in. Next, the podcast will be played again and while listening students would fill up the gaps. Give the students the answers.

Step 3 - Learning Business English Words (15 minutes):

Give a brief lecture on Business English Words with some examples. Use the words in some simple sentences because it helps the students to know how and where to use the words. Now, in the script, already given, ask students to identify the Business English words. After this task, ask the students if they know the meaning, or at least they can guess and use those in sentences for better understanding.

Step 4 - Writing and Speaking Activity (30 minutes):

Divide the students into groups of 3 students and ask them to write about their own experience regarding their visit to International Trade Fair in 10 sentences. After they finish writing ask any one student from each group to come forward and read out their script. While they read, give feedback on their writing, pronunciation and vocabulary.

Step 5 - Discussion (5 minutes):

Before leaving, review the whole class and discuss how the students have been benefited with the activities. End the class with a little bit of discussion on the exercises/activities for the next class.

Learning in Modern Age

Learning now-a-days is not confined in books. During past few decades, computer and computing has developed so much that the learning and teaching strategy is bound to change. For the blessings of science and technology now we can surf the ocean of knowledge. Computer, technology and internet has great influence on teaching and learning. There are thousands of websites which can be used effectively for the learners. Now, the teacher's are not solely responsible for teaching. Students have become autonomous, independent and they can choose what they want to learn. But still students would need teacher's assistance. Because, not all the websites are suitable for the students. Many of them may not be culturally suitable for our country.
